October 7, 2004 - Letter to the Editor
of the Berkshire Eagle: Good-bye to Bouton, and good riddance
I am writing in response to the recent decision
of Bouton and company to give up on Wahconah Park. Isn't it
obvious by now that Bouton feels he is above the rules? After
all, he is a former World Series pitcher and author of "Ball
Four."
His magnanimous gesture to save Wahconah Park
failed once and he became, in his mind, the poor victim of
the grand conspiracy (remember "Foul Ball"). Now
he balks, no pun intended, at dealing with the carpenters'
union. Perhaps he'll write another book about the shadows
and phantoms undermining his work to save the park ("Curve
Ball"). How many times can others be blamed?
Now, Mr. Knuckleballer, you can move on, and
please pick up your copy of "Knucklehead" on your
way out.
