October 3, 2004 - Wahconah Park Inc. Press
Release: The drama over the fate
of historic Wahconah Park continues in Pittsfield, MA. Bouton
group’s plan is
on the ropes again.
Pittsfield, MA - Almost three years to the
day after Jim Bouton, Chip
Elitzer, and Eric Margenau’s original plan to restore
historic Wahconah Park was
unanimously rejected by the Pittsfield Parks Commission, their
new plan,
brought back to Pittsfield by a special invitation from the
new Mayor, the City
Council, and the Parks Commission, is once again being blocked,
against the
wishes of the vast majority of Pittsfield’s citizens.
What makes the latest crisis even harder to
believe is that this time a round the Bouton group (Wahconah
Park, Inc.) has access to a professional team set to play
in 2005, $1.2 million ready to invest, and a marketing momentum
generated by the company’s smash hit vintage baseball
game on July 3rd between the Pittsfield Hillies and Hartford
Senators, that drew the largest crowd in the history of Wahconah
Park and was broadcast live to a national television audience
by ESPN Classic.
For background on the most recent developments,
read the email to Mayor Jimmy Ruberto. The matter will likely
be decided, one way or another, at upcoming meetings of the
Parks Commission (Monday, October 4, 7:00 PM, at Springside
House on North Street in Pittsfield), and the City Council
(Tuesday, October 12, 7:00 PM at Pittsfield City Hall).
