July 7, 2004 - Letter to the Editor of
the Berkshire Eagle: Bouton, Elitzer will make it work
It's very obvious that The Eagle cannot
get over the fact that Jim
Bouton, Chip Elitzer and Mayor Jim Ruberto have put together
a winning combination.
Saturday night's game was a great debut
for what's in store for Wahconah Park
and Pittsfield.
Thanks to their efforts, the discovery of
the 1791 bylaw and a great
vintage baseball game we are now in the national spotlight.
What happen last Saturday was magical. For
The Eagle to constantly throw
cold water on Bouton's efforts is to continue The Eagle's
reputation of
negativism and disdain for anything that runs counter to
its self-interests. I am
willing to bet that Jim and Chip will have a team playing
at Wahconah Park next
year. I bet they will carry out their plans to renovate
the park. I bet
Wahconah Park will be a financial success and I bet Pittsfield
will be the winner.
Bouton has brought some real excitement
to Pittsfield and has gotten
national exposure. If The Eagle does not like the way the
ball game is now being
played it can take its ball and go home.
