July 23, 2004 - Berkshire Eagle: Tickets for Sept. 4 vintage game on sale
Aug. 9.

By Tony Dobrowolski

PITTSFIELD -- Tickets for the vintage baseball game between the
Pittsfield Hillies and the Hartford Senators at Wahconah Park on Sept. 4 are scheduled
to go on sale the week of Aug. 9.

Jim Bouton of Wahconah Park Inc. said tickets will be available in
Pittsfield at the Lantern Restaurant at 455 North St., Bagels Too at 166 North St.,
Tim's Sports Zone at 127 Wahconah St., Bobby Hudpucker's at 1350 East St.,
and Teo's Hot Dogs Restaurant at 1410 East St.

Tickets will also be available at Quik-Print in Great Barrington and at
the Old Country Store in North Egremont.

The Hillies and Senators, who will also play in Hartford, Conn., on July
31, drew around 5,000 fans to Wahconah Park for their first meeting on July
3, which the Senators won, 14-12.

Ticket prices for the Sept. 4 game are the same as they were on July 3
-- $20 for box seats, $10 for the upper grandstand, $5 for bleacher seats and
$3 for standing room.

The Hillies and Senators represent minor league rivals who played in the
old Eastern League in the early 20th century. "Vintage" baseball is played by
the rules that governed the sport in 1886. Teams also wear replica uniforms
and use similar equipment to that used by their counterparts in the late 19th
century.

Bouton said Wednesday that the Hillies plan to play a series of vintage
games in Wahconah Park next year as part of a league of vintage teams. Vintage baseball received an extraordinary amount of publicity when the first
Hillies-Senators game at Wahconah Park on July 3 was televised nationally on ESPN Classic.

There are currently 120 teams located in 20 states that play vintage
baseball, according to information available on the Internet. One team, the
Cincinnati Red Stockings, has already expressed an interest in playing the Hillies at Wahconah Park next season, Bouton said.

"Wahconah Park fits that bill," Bouton said, referring to the interest
that vintage baseball teams have expressed for playing at Wahconah Park next
season. "And it fits in with the marketing of the ballpark as a step back in
time."
